Seven Deadly Social Sins
I saw Gandhi's incredibly concise list of seven deadly social sins at a local cafe, and immediately knew I had to make it into a motion graphics piece. Featured by Adbusters.

Conscience Speaks
Conscience Speaks
I made this performance visual piece during MLK's birthday a few years ago. The audio is an excerpt from the 1967 "Beyond Vietnam" speech... so relevant today it makes me shiver.

Design is a Signal of Intention

Things I Like:

Identity and Violence
In this brilliant exposition, Amartya Sen refutes Samuel Huntington's theory of the "clash of civilizations" by examining the propensity for violence in rigidly defined societies, regardless of ideology. Instead, Sen advocates the recognition of multi-faceted identities, a crucial step towards understanding and cooperation in our interdependent world.

Plan B 2.0
Throughout this comprehensive analysis of the problems our civilization faces, Lester Brown advances practical, tested solutions, and even calculates a budget for bringing humanity and the earth back from the brink.

The Closing of the Western Mind
Charles Freeman's meticulously researched book provides insights into the conflict between reason and faith in the development of Christian doctrine. The Church's views on sex, science, and intolerance of dissent are presented in a historical context.

Bass Jihad
I've really been digging this recent release from Dub Gabriel. Here's a well written review by Chris Slawecki. Tough stuff indeed.

The Ancestor's Tale
Richard Dawkins' reverse journey through evolutionary history offers revelatory insights on nearly every page. I have a whole new respect for bacteria.

WeFunk Radio
I've been addicted to this online radio station from Montreal ever since my friend Seth turned me onto it. There's even a dashboard widget that tells you what's playing. Funky.

End of the World Party (just in case)
Medeski, Martin and Wood are pretty much my favorite musicians; I've seen these guys do ridiculously beautiful things on stage, including jamming with a tin can and a stick. This album shows a balance of maturity and playfulness which is hard to come by in musicians these days.

Cradle to Cradle
Heralding the next phase of industrial evolution, Bill McDonough and Michael Braungart's important book sums up the challenge on the cover: "remaking the way we make things".

Jukka Eskola
Among the impressive jazz records coming out of Finland, this album from trumpeter Jukka Eskola stands out as an instant classic, on par with Donald Byrd's 1969 Kofi.

The Nothing That Is
Robert Kaplan's natural history of zero starts off somewhat hyperbolic in its enthusiasm for the subject, but turns out to be profoundly nuanced. After tracing the history of the development of the cipher, Kaplan poses some metaphysical questions and demonstrates how to derive all the numbers from zero.

Ode Magazine
This thoughtful, progressive Dutch magazine has flourished with it's U.S incarnation in recent years. Each issue is packed with positive ideas and good news.

Sakura
This album from Susumu Yokota is some of the most sublime music I've come across. I used to listen to it every night.

Oryx and Crake
Margaret Atwood's novel is a sobering look at the ethical dilemmas facing us in a bioengineered future. I love the marketing themes and product names she uses in the book (i.e. "BlyssPluss").

Handbook for the Apocalypse
SF-based Variable Unit put out this amazing collaboration... Marc Bamuthi's tracks on here are some of the best spoken word pieces I've heard.

The Power Of Nightmares
This excellent BBC documentary in three parts tells the story of the parallel rise of the Neo-conservatives in America and the radical Islamists in the Middle East, and how each used the other to amplify their strength.
